WordPress plugin: Handle External Links

Handle External Links helps you to control when to set rel=”nofollow” on external links in WordPress. You can set nofollow depending on the PageRank, 404 status, whether the URL is blacklisted or not, and many more flexible options! Download from WordPress.org

New features with Handle External Links 1.1.5

  1. Whitelist/blacklist URLs: whitelisted URLs won’t be affected by your settings, blacklisted URLs will always have a nofollow value.
  2. Option to set nofollow on URLs that doesn’t return a PageRank value
  3. Choose if you want to set target=”_blank” to your outgoing URLs (will add support for the rel=”external” value in the next version)

  1. Set nofollow on all external links that goes to a 404 page
  2. Set nofollow links to pages with a low PageRank
  3. Automatically set nofollow on all links within posts/pages that are older than a certain date

    Cool idea! What do you think about extending the criteria to include redirects? That is, if an external link redirects it gets nofollowed because it means something has changed since you first added the link.

      Hi Marios and thank you for your comment! I am going to add options for header status within the next few days. This will include 301, 307 and many more header codes. I’m grateful for your feedback Marios and I’m glad you liked the idea. Happy new year!

    I have a quick question about the “best before date” function: If I out a date in the future, ALL external links will be nofollow (except the ones in the blacklist), is that correct?

    Sorry, one last thing: It seems that the plugin only affects new articles and pages? Would it be possible to add a function that affects existing content as well? Thanks in advance, Robert
